Could I save money on my energy bills by buying a new build home?

With energy costs currently so high, there’s all the more reason to explore a new build as your new home. As a result of modern building techniques, materials used in construction and the appliances used, new builds are much more energy efficient than older properties.

Research based on Government EPC data coming out of 2022 has found that buyers of a new build house will save on average around £2,600 a year in energy bills, with the average annual running costs for a new build totalling £1,500 as compared to an average of £3,570 for older properties.

Older properties usually have older boilers and heating systems, and they’re often less efficient than new models meaning they must work harder to heat up and, so, use more energy. New homes also have plenty of insulation which reduces the need to use energy to keep a home warm in winter and cool in summer. Double glazing windows & trickle vents help control the temperature within home. Further green benefits to homes are fittings with low-energy lightbulbs and restricted flow taps designed to stop unnecessary usage of water.
